LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT

From an economic point of view, the production of fertilizers is an industry classified as capital-intensive, which requires heavy investment in tangible assets. Its factories are installations with complex physical and chemical processes that are mostly subjected to high pressures and temperatures. For both reasons, our facilities work on Continuous Production, or in other words, they have to be in operation every day of the year.

On the other hand, from an agronomic point of view, fertilizers are only critical at certain moments during the plant life cycle as elements that provide them with nutrition, and, therefore, they need to be fertilized in the right quantity at the right time. This is usually called Seasonal Consumption.

The limited and scarce amount of time available to apply fertilizers, both due to reasons related to the crops themselves and the weather conditions, generates an extraordinary concentration of demand in a very short time. This would be impossible to satisfy if all of the product had to be dispatched from the manufacturing centres at the time of consumption. It is therefore necessary to previously locate the fertilizer in warehouses near the farmer.

Grupo Fertiberia has designed its storage centres taking into account the specific characteristics of the geographical area where they are located. Their individual storage capacities, which are different in each case, are determined by several factors:

The nominal figures of daily production of the factories that it relieves in times when there is an absence of consumption.

The geographical location of agricultural areas to meet the demand for fertilizers at appropriate times in areas far from the production centres.

Also,Grupo Fertiberia has implemented modern conditioning facilities in its centers to treat the product after storage and before shipment. This type of facility, with outputs of 100 and 200 t / h., outside the factories, are exclusive to our Logistics Centers.

Supplies

The companies in the group have a large number of infrastructures dedicated to the transportation and distribution of the product, whether by sea, rail or road, and which allow products to reach customers in Spain or overseas as quickly and as diligently as possible, always maintaining the highest quality standards in all processes resulting from the handling and transportation of the product.

The different companies currently continue to maintain their full logistical independence. However, a policy of joint action means that there is total communication between the companies, with all of them benefiting from the existing synergies.

This policy means that year after year it is possible to coordinate figures higher than the 3.5 million tons managed through contracting, and about 160 thousand transportation units between ships, railways and road transport.

At Fertiberia...

The Fertiberia Logistics and Supply Department manages over 4,700 tons of product on average every day during the year, including raw materials, ammonia and final products. Likewise, it is in charge of managing all time charter contracts for ammonia, which has made it possible to efficiently and competitively maintain the service to supply consumption centres belonging to both the company itself and third parties.

Fertiberia, S.A. has a freight contract with two ammonia ships with capacities of 7,000 and 10,000 tons which both operate at full capacity. The services they perform are adapted to the different logistical situations in the loading and unloading ports alike.
